Honoring Two Remarkable Women Who Changed Thousands of Lives

October 28, 2014

On October 26, we had the distinct honor of being the presenting sponsor for the Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times Gala, “Honoring the Nurses that Make Healing Happen.”  This event honored Barbara Britt and “Aunt” Fran Wiley for more than 30 years of camp nursing and leadership.
We were proud to present each of these incredible and dedicated nurses with the Barco’s Nightingales Foundation Award for Nursing Excellence.

Each with over 30 years of commitment to Camp, Barbara and Fran have seen it all. From “roughing” it in a tent and sleeping bags to buses with bathrooms and helicopter trips in the night; from IV antibiotics at poolside to caring for the very youngest of campers and training and inspiring hundreds of nurses to follow in their footsteps, these ladies never wavered. Over the years and together, these two extraordinary healers have created a lasting legacy even they could not have imagined.
Barbara Britt, R.N./M.S.N.  In 1972 after Barbara’s first day as a Pediatrics-Hematology-Oncology Nurse, she found a passion that has remained for the length of her career. Ten years later, Dr. Stuart Siegel, co-founder of Camp Good Times, asked Barbara to be Camp’s first nurse. She immediately volunteered, believing in what camp could accomplish the minute it was conceived.
“Auntie” Fran Wiley, R.N./M.N.  After her first volunteer session in 1983, Fran brought more than her academic knowledge. She’s shared her love for camping and the desire to allow all campers, regardless of their situation, the possibility to heal in ways that can’t always happen in hospitals and clinics using modern medicine.

It is a pleasure to offer our congratulations and sincere thanks to these two dedicated, fun-loving, compassionate, and driven women.
