Meet Advisory Board Member Sarah E. Orth, MPA

May 19, 2016

Barco's Nightingales Foundation Advisory Board Member Sarah OrthSarah E. Orth is executive director of Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times  and has served on the Advisory Board for Barco’s Nightingales Foundation since 2013. She has more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit management.
Sarah earned her bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Fordham College at Lincoln Center and her master’s in public administration from California State University, Northridge. She joined Camp in December 2012, bringing more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit management and fundraising to the position. In her work with Camp, Sarah dedicates her efforts to the hundreds of children and families impacted by cancer. She knows first-hand about the powerful support and healing found in the Camp community, and how important it is when your child is diagnosed with cancer.
In 2014 Sarah’s daughter was diagnosed with a benign tumor in the bone above her eye. While the tumor was benign and her daughter’s treatment was “chemo-light,” Sarah recalls vividly, the toll the stress and fear took on her whole family, from diagnosis through treatment. While she knew it could have been much worse, it was still a terrible experience.
Since joining the Camp staff Sarah has met hundreds of parents with whom she has a shared story.  She has seen the children find hope and courage at Camp and watched their parents discover unique friendships and support found only among others that have experienced the same heartache, grief and hope. Sarah believes completely, writing, “I have no doubt that Camp is an integral part of the healing process for children with cancer and their families.”
In addition to her responsibilities at Camp, Sarah provides our Foundation with insights, support and knowledge.  She also teaches the Capital Campaigns class for UCLA’s Nonprofit Certificate Program and serves on the Board of the Patron Saints Foundation.  She also serves as president of the board for her children’s elementary school foundation, Mountain Avenue Committed to Kids.
We are honored to work alongside Sarah and proud to have her as a member of our Advisory Board.
