Can you imagine life without safe drinking water? For over 663 million people worldwide, this is a reality.

You know from our work in Haiti that the need for clean water is dire in that country. But Haiti is not the only place with severe drought conditions. In addition to drought, thousands lack access to potable water. In many countries faucets, wells, and pipes do not exist. And, where they are in place, they may not be not available for the poorest people.

Barco’s Nightingales Foundation is proud to be one of many organizations globally that works to provide fresh water to those in need.  We salute other organizations that have joined the effort. Some of these address the water crisis on a global venue while others like our Foundation, focus on the specific needs of one area.

Importance of Water Accessibility

As a result, we are making a difference, one well, one community at a time. In 1990, 76% of the world had access to improved drinking water sources. By 2015 91% of the global population had access to improved water sources. Significant progress has been made over the last 25 years! But we still have work to do.

The global water crisis could be solved with $40 billion per year. That may seem like an unattainable cost, but to put that into perspective, in 2016 Americans spent on average $830 on Christmas. If just half of the population set aside $250 of their Christmas budget, the water crisis could be solved.

Every solar-powered water well Barco’s Nightingales Foundation helps build in Haiti is a step towards healthier communities and better lives for the people of Haiti.  You can help continue this needed work.  If everyone in our Community of Compassion donated even $5.00 – that’s one coffee drink at your local coffee shop – we would have enough to build at least one more solar powered water well. That’s not a lot considering it will bring clean water to nearly 3,000 people or more.

Thank you for your continued support of Barco’s Nightingales Foundation.
