With Gratitude for Support from Scrubs & Beyond

September 23, 2014

We are very grateful for the support we’ve received from Scrubs & Beyond, the largest retailer of medical apparel, shoes, and accessories in the country, and proud that its president and founder, Karla Bakersmith, is on our board.

Ms. Bakersmith started her 33-year career in the retail clothing industry as a buyer for Famous Barr, a subdivision of the Macy Corporation. She moved to Life Uniform as the vice president of merchandising and marketing, learning the uniform industry needs and demands.  In September 2000, she opened her first Scrubs & Beyond store in Missouri, with the goal of making the retail experience an adventure.
Ms. Bakersmith achieved this goal by developing stores with a truly whimsical atmosphere and employees who focused on each customer’s experience. Within each store is a 10-foot beating heart with a lighted EKG running through it and an attached 20-foot stethoscope. Other decorations echo the medical theme and include a 5-foot toothbrush and box of dental floss, a thermometer, and a tongue depressor. Sign holders look like doctors clipboards and display tables look like hospital gurneys.
In July of 2013, Scrubs & Beyond acquired Life Uniform and Uniform City, making Scrubs & Beyond the largest multi-channel supplier of healthcare apparel and accessories in the country with over 150 stores nationwide.
But for Ms. Bakersmith, it is all about the people – both her customers and employees.  She has not only created a successful, fun shopping experience for her customers but also a terrific work environment for her employees. Her team’s reviews of their experience are filled with comments like:
*  I am excited and love coming to work every day.
*  Everyone works hard, and has fun while doing so.
*  Communication flows in our organization with continued updates on what is going on within the company
Ms. Bakersmith’s genuine care for others extends to Barco’s Nightingales Foundation.  This September, Scrubs & Beyond is partnering with us to raise funds to build a new solar well in Haiti. Between September 1 and September 30, 2014, for every new “Like” or follower on the Barco’s Nightingales Foundation Facebook page equates to a $5.00 contribution toward the cost of building our new solar water well.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Karla Bakersmith and Scrubs & Beyond.  We are honored to call you partner and friend.
