Haiti Water Wells Update by Phil Little

February 21, 2012

Phil Little and Haitian School Kids

There were 20 of us that made the trip to Haiti the week of February 6-13. This team included 2 medical doctors, 2 dentists and 2 nurses.  The trip from my home in Mississippi to where we are staying on the Haiti border takes 16 hours which includes an 8 hour bus ride after we land in Santo Domingo. Because this area is so difficult to get to, they receive very little help.

They are desperately in need of medical and dental care and the only help they get is when we bring medical/dental  teams in about 5 times per year.  Anse-a-Pitre Haiti is a village of around 28,000 people with children making up most of that number. I have made this trip 3 times in the past 6 months and will be going back 2 more times this year. To see more pictures, see our Haiti Water Wells photo gallery.

These people are the most humble and grateful people that I have ever been around . How they are able to survive on so little is amazing. We are in the process of building another water well thanks to the generosity of Michael Donner and the Barco Nightingales Foundation. We have been delayed due to a recent Cholera outbreak on both sides of the Haiti and Dominican Republic border. The well that we will be building must be 150 feet deep and requires a special rig to drill through the rock and very hard surface. We are hoping to get this done in the next 90 days.

Vickie and Haitian Child

We had a very successful trip and saw around 200 people per day in the medical tent. I assisted the dentist and helped pull diseased teeth that caused great pain to many of the people there. We also gave away 500 back packs to the children filled with school supplies. We gave away clothing donated by Barco and also gave over 150 soccer balls to the children .

It was a wonderful trip that I will never forget. The children are amazing !!! We would like to thank Michael Donner and the Barco Nightingales Foundation for all of their help that is saving lives in this remote area of the world ..
