Making Dreams Come True
This story was written by the daughter of one of our long-time Barco Uniform employees, Alma Ahumada. She is one of the bravest young women we know and we are delighted to say, after a fierce battle she has been cancer free for five years.
“I met Mr. Donner back in November 2010 we sat in his office for a couple of hours I told him my story my experience at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times and how I love Drake (my favorite singer). He then told me that he was going to send me and my best friend to his concert the next time Drake was in Los Angeles.
In October 2013, Mr. Donner was given an award at the Ronald McDonald Gala. He invited me and my mom to attend. We were very honored to be invited by him. When Camp Ronald McDonald’s for Good Times gave him his award he told the story of how he came to meet me and he said that he was going to send me and my friend to the concert. I was so excited because I knew that Drake was going to be in the Staples Center in November.
In November 2013, Drake came to Los Angeles, and as promised, Mr. Donner bought me the tickets to go and see him. Doug, who was at the gala, heard Mr. Donner and decided to surprise me as well. He got in contact with Drake’s people and they upgraded my tickets to floor seats. I couldn’t believe it I was so close to him; it was the best year ever. Not only am I considered a survivor because I’ve been cancer free for 5 years but I got to go see Drake it’s so hard to explain in words the feelings.
After the concert, I couldn’t even talk because I was screaming so much and singing all his songs. It was the best experience!! I was going to meet him as well, but for some reason I couldn’t; but it was okay because I was able to be at the concert and that’s all that really mattered. All this happened because of Mr. Donner.
I want thank Mr. Donner and Barco’s Nightingales Foundation for making my great wish happen.”
