Reflecting on ReSurge International 2014

December 18, 2014

As Frida and I look back on 2014, we are inspired by the work completed by one of our Community of Compassion charitable partners, ReSurge International. This organization has made a tremendous impact on children in Africa, Asia and Latin America in need of reconstructive surgery.
Barco’s Nightingales Foundation is proud to support the work of ReSurge International.
ReSurge International has been a pioneer in the field of reconstructive surgery, delivering a continuum of care to children and adults in some of the most remote regions of the world. More than 100,000 free surgeries have been provided over the last 45 years.
By empowering local doctors, ReSurge increases access to surgical care and by restoring lives through surgery, ReSurge helps reduce suffering and poverty. ReSurge International trains local doctors through their Visiting Educator Program and Medical Scholars program. They provide medical access through their Surgical Outreach Programs and Volunteer Surgical Team Trips. ReSurge International also provides technological support and continued education and assistance to local doctors through the ReSurge Grand Rounds (RGR), a web-based program that connects isolated developing world surgeons and anesthesiologists with a global network of medical professionals for advice on difficult cases and to collaborate in the delivery of high-quality care to poor patients.
Since 1969, volunteers from the United States and abroad have worked under exhausting conditions and given up pay, vacation time and comfort to help transform lives and all say they would do it again – and many have. Perhaps you have considered volunteering on a medical mission team?
