Inspired to do even more…
On my most recent trip to Haiti this past spring, I was genuinely surprised at the tremendous outpouring of gratitude from the children and families where we have completed our six solar water wells. When we traveled to the site of our first solar well, the feeling I had while watching the volume of water being used, was beyond words. Looking into the faces of those drinking directly from the well filled me with a sense of joy, knowing that we were making such a tremendous difference in the life of this village.
The genuine happiness among the villagers at having access to something we all take for granted – fresh water – was also a humbling reminder of what is still needed.
While visiting the site of another solar well, I met with women who had traveled up to 2-3 hours each way from their own villages to get fresh water. I learned so much from the women. When these buckets are filled, they weigh nearly 45 pounds and these women carry them back to their villages on their heads. It takes great physical strength and endurance to balance these heavy water buckets and I salute and respect them.
As we continue our efforts to build more solar water wells, with your generous support, we can lessen the burden and arduous walk these women make simply to gain access to clean water so they can protect the health of the families, and instead give them more time to be with their families and villages.
Each time I return from Haiti, I am overcome with a sense of humility. The intense gratitude of the communities we are helping inspires me to do so much more.
Frida and I are proud to make even a small difference in the lives of these wonderfully generous people and look forward to continuing our work in the future.
