What I Learned from the Children of Haiti
Every time I pause to look at the pictures from my visits to Haiti I am drawn to a few special images, mostly of the children. It is remarkable that in the face of extreme poverty they are so joyful. Their smiles are some of the biggest, warmest and most touching I’ve seen. Their eyes are filled with hope and love.
They are so grateful for even the smallest things – a smile, a t-shirt, a piece of candy, or even a simple hug. They are anxious to help just for the sake of being close to you, never expecting anything in return.
So today, I wanted to share 10 of the many things I’ve learned in my work with these adorable, unpredictable and joyful children.
1. Every day is as good or bad as you make it.
2. Be grateful for what you have.
3. Embrace people with no expectations.
4. Every day is a fresh start.
5. Happiness comes from within.
6. Family is the most important thing in life.
7. Never lose hope.
8. Be courageous.
9. Laugh every day.
10. Never take anything for granted.
