Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times News!
We are delighted to bring you a guest blog with news from Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, and to see the joy and healing provided through some of the camperships funded by our Foundation annually.
Spring was an exciting time for Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times with the Walk for Kids in April and the grand opening of our brand new dining hall in May. We have been dreaming about a new dining hall at Camp for about 10 years and on May 2nd, that dream became a reality when we celebrated the grand opening of Camp’s state-of-the-art, 12,000 square foot Dining Hall/Activity Center. Camp’s board of trustees, staff, camp families, and the donors who made the new facility possible joined in the celebration. The dining hall is an exceptional place at Camp; it is a place where campers meet not only to share a meal, but to support one another. This is the place where our epic Roll & Roll breakfast happens and where each Summer Camp session has their all-Camp closing. This dining hall will have a tremendous impact on our program as it will allow us to expand our camper capacity by 25%!
Summer camp season is in full swing! We have five sessions open to all patients and siblings who are at least nine years old. Each summer camp sessions is five nights/six days in length and offers a wide variety of different activities that are fun and challenging, which allow campers to explore their creativity, discover new skills and refine existing talents. At Camp, we take pride in our ability to include every camper in all the fun, regardless of their treatment or ability! By the end of Camp, youth leave empowered knowing they can tackle any challenge that comes their way.
From July 20th – August 15th Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times will be conducting our 25in25 campaign where we hope to raise $25,000 in 25 days! We are asking our supporters to accept the 25in25 challenge to donate $25 and ask 25 people to do the same. IF you save and donate a dollar a day for camp you will make a huge impact! We are also thrilled to be honoring a very special nurse – Debi Mankame who volunteers her time as one of our very special nurses at camp. We are beyond grateful for the continued support from the Foundation and we look forward to a wonderful evening!
