BNF Heroes
2020 will forever be known as the year we would all love to forget. However, we cannot forget the blessings of the heroes that have inspired us to keep hope alive.
When COVID hit the world, the unknowing of how to control it and what that means scared all of us. For those who already do not have much control of their living situations, it is even more frightening. In Haiti, borders were closed, so they had no way to get food. They thought they were going to die from hunger.
Barco’s Nightingales Foundation had been feeding hot lunches to school children during the school year. When Covid hit, schools were on lock down, so another avenue for the children to be fed was closed down.
In April, Our BNF Team in Haiti devised a way to feed the people in remote Haiti. Delince Cenat’s team set up at a school and people were able to pick up food. Rafael Perez’s team, consisting of Fermin Perez Jean, Romano Perez Yan, Ricardo Perez Yan, Tony Julian and Josue Paul, decided to deliver the food to each of the families themselves. Through rough terrain, they delivered food to 800 families, traveling 16-48 miles daily. Both Delince’s and Rafael’s teams have been providing food for 6000 families each month.
“We wanted to protect people from COVID-19, in order to do social distancing, going to their houses was the best option. Helping people is our Goal, we also believe that we are saving lives. This has been the most important work in our life, because the people we are saving had no idea about how to survive the next day. They were hopeless.” – Fermin Perez Yan
