ReSurge International – A Sustainable Difference

December 28, 2013

Barco’s Nightingales Foundation’s commitment to the profession of nursing and the health of children around the world has enable us to make a major impact on ReSurge International patients and their families by providing the gift of 1,398 free reconstructive surgeries.  Many of these children have suffered a life of desolation and solitude, but through our support and ReSurge volunteer medical teams, they have found hope for a better tomorrow.
ReSurge International provides free reconstructive surgeries for the poor in developing countries, and by doing this, restore their health so they can return to school, provide for their families and return to being productive members of their society.  Many of the approaches and practices adopted by ReSurge make them unique in their work and enable ongoing success.

• ReSurge strives to educate the world about the millions of injuries caused by open cooking fires around the world.
• ReSurge volunteers not only perform reconstructive surgeries for free, but they partner with other volunteers and local medical teams to train and make sure that medical access is available year-round in these communities now and into the future.
• ReSurge medical teams perform facial reconstructive surgeries and surgeries to ease scarring from crippling burns caused by open cooking fires.
• ReSurge establishes training and medical programs that continue to provide direct patient care; provide educational training and assists the host-country medical colleagues towards medical independence.
Currently, ReSurge works in 13 developing countries, with year-round surgical outreach in 8 of those where surgeons and their medical teams provide continuous reconstructive surgical care to the poor.  If you are interested in volunteering with ReSurge, please visit their website.
