A Healing Touch
When I visited Haiti this year, I had the opportunity to see some amazing and caring doctors, nurses and dentists bringing health and healing to their patients in Haiti. The experience touched my heart and reaffirmed our vision and mission for Barco’s Nightingales Foundation.
For six days the volunteer teams provided dental and medical help to the community through Hispaniola Mountain Ministries (HMM). On the first day alone, they helped nearly 175 children with both dental and medical needs. This team visits Haiti 10 times a year, and due to the efforts of HMM, they now can provide care in this newly completed building.
These are three of the nurses and one of the physicians who worked tirelessly in their mission.
In addition to the medical facility, HMM provided a truck for in construction and medical emergencies. During my visit, the young woman in this was about to give birth but had serious problems. Raphael was called to help. With the help of this new truck, Phil Little and myself, we were able to rush her to the hospital. The trip to the hospital was very challenging, and although the truck arrived in time to save her life, it was too late for her baby.
Raphael will continue to use this truck to bring food to the people; to bring sick patients to the hospital and to bring supplies to the building sites of our future solar water wells.
Even though we cannot possibly save everyone, the impact of our work with HMM is evident and clearly changing lives for the better.
