Through the generosity of our supporters, Barco’s Nightingales Foundation is now providing hot lunches to children who attend school in the remote village of Marouge, Haiti. This village is located high in the remote mountains of country, in the far west of the province of Quest. Located approximately 45 miles from Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, Marouge is the highest point in northwestern Haiti.

A  satellite map view shows Marouge lying almost at the midpoint of a long peninsula that juts out from the mainland to the west. A closer view shows that this area is rugged and difficult to reach; the images show rough mountainous landscapes with no visible roads leading to the top.

Marouge, which means “the red mountain” is known for the red clay earth found throughout the village. While there is a stream that runs intermittently in the rainy system, but it  disappears completely during the dry season.

You can imagine our delight when we received these photos of the lovely children who enjoy the hot meal we provide each school day. We hope these photos inspire you to do even more to help us help them.
